About NAFI |
Overview The NAFI service displays maps of fire activity based on information from satellites, such as hotspots (locations of recently burning fires) and burnt areas/fire scars (maps of burnt country). The maps are displayed to meet the needs of fire and land managers across north Australia and the rangelands.Hotspots are sourced from Landgate Western Australia and Geoscience Australia (from NOAA, NASA and ESA satellites). Burnt area mapping is mostly produced by Charles Darwin University with the 10m Burnt area mapping for QLD produced by the Queensland Department of Environment and Science. The NAFI service is based at Charles Darwin University. Its public good services, such as the website are funded by the Federal Government. More tailored services are paid for by individual groups.
